Understand the difference between a power strip and a surge-protector

First, not all power strips are surge protectors. It may seem basic, but it is a basic knowledge you will need. Although a power strip divides your outlet into multiple ports, the surge-protector protects your computer, TV, and other electronic devices from power surges and interference in your power line. Makes. Outbreaks can not occur every day, but are quite common to damage your equipment.

You will certainly pay more for an outbreak guard than a power band, but it's well worth it. If you're the type who goes to Amazon and just buys everything that's cheaper, remember. Do not assume it's in the same category as surge-protectors or even in large stores that hang next to surge protectors.

What is a Surge Protector?

A surge-protector is designed to protect any device with a standard AC plug from damaging power surges and disruptive line noise transferred through the electrical wall outlet. A surge protector may have a long power cord or it may plug directly into the wall, and it usually has multiple outlets for connecting equipment. Some surge protectors also include protection for phone/modem lines, network (Ethernet) connections, and coaxial connections for cable, antenna, or satellite TV reception.

Be careful not to confuse a surge-protector with a power strip. They look very similar, but a power strip provides only an extension cord and additional outlets, with no protection against surges and line noise.

Guarantee

As with most types of consumer electronics, there is a manufacturer’s warranty for overvoltage protection devices that covers connected equipment up to a certain maximum level (varies from product to product). With luck you will never have to use it, but it is always better to be prepared. Be sure to read the fine print of the warranty carefully. Some claims require surge protection, all devices (whether damaged or not) that are connected to the surge-protector at the time of damage, and original receipts for everything.

In general, there are many exclusions, conditions and restrictions (eg Hot Rings Jumping) that must be met before you see a penny, and full refunds are never guaranteed. You can also expect the processing to take three months or more.
